Research: Value Chain Study of the Onion, Tomato, Chilli, Papaya, Cucumber, Mango and Banana Crop

To grasp the current situation of the horticultural crop in Pakistan, in 2021, we conducted detailed mapping and assessment of the value chains of multiple crops. The work focused on all stages and players in the value chain, spanning from production and marketing of the crop to processing and consumption. The assessment focused on identifying various challenges and opportunities in each value chain and informed the design of interventions by our client to identify entry points for work to effectively and sustainability mitigate losses at different stages of the product.

As part of the study, we led consultations with exporters, financial institutions, middlemen, agri-input suppliers, shopkeepers, market leaders, consumers, and farmers in Karachi and Hyderabad.
